Title: On the Topological View of Digital Images

Abstract: The aim of this talk is to give an introduction in the field of digital topology. The topic arose in connection with image processing. It is also important in all applications of artificial intelligence dealing with spatial structures. In this presentation, a simple but representative model of the Euclidean plane, called digital plane, is given. The problem is to introduce a satisfactory topology for this essentially discrete structure. It turns out that all known approaches, which come from different directions of applications and theory, converge to virtually one concept of 4/8- or 8/4- connectedness.
